Cheeeeeese

You know what I love? Lazy Saturday mornings, followed by productive Saturday mid-days, and Saturday evenings spent with friends. Don't you?

We enjoyed a wine-and-cheese party last night. The new BevMo opened in Santa Barbara, so we got some old favorites (Menage a Trois, a Gewurtztraminer Elaina likes) and some new (a Pinot Noir, banana bread beer), and a ton of cheeses (an apricot Stilton, dill Havarti, Dubliner cheddar, several varieties of goat cheese, a garlic and herb Swiss, brie for honey-and-brown sugar baked brie, and fresh mozzarella to have as caprese appetizers).

SO. GOOD.

And Aarti, I used the cheese appetizer book and cheese set you gave us. Perfect!

Also, Steve directed his mom here (welcome!) for pictures of us, and in a quick look-back through the last few months' posts, I realized I don't actually have any recent pictures of us up here. I think most of them have gone to Facebook. So I thought I'd fix that!

T minus 364 days and counting...

I promise there won't be a daily countdown, but the wedding is a year from yesterday. To celebrate our negative-first anniversary, Steve surprised me at work (a feat, considering I work at four different offices) with flowers, which prompted my boss (who, on about a once-in-a-month chance, happened to also be in my office with me) to let me leave early with him.

We went to dinner at Flemmings, an amaaaaaazing steak house, where we started the meal with a fresh mozzarella and tomato salad. We both ordered filet mignon, which was rubbed in a dry, ground mushroom... rub? (And I hate mushrooms, but this was delicious! Didn't taste at all mushroomy.) And Gorgonzola cream sauce on the side. It came with asparagus spears and we had a side of garlic and butter mashed potatoes. For dessert, we topped it off with chocolate lava cake with "homemade" vanilla ice cream in a cookie boat and a side of chantilly whipped cream.

Oh. My. God.

That was possibly the best meal I have eaten in all my life.

Restaurant staff kept coming by to wish us a happy anniversary, and I couldn't help but giggle each time.

My contribution to the "anniversary" was finally giving Steve his Man Ring. He's commented to me so many times that he wishes there was a male equivalent of an engagement ring, so I got him one. We ended up having to go back and exchange it for a smaller size, but I think he's very happy with it now. It's adorable.
