Story ideas! Got any? Cuz I don't.
I need a story idea. My next story will be due in narrative writing quicker than I would like it to be. I'm having a real hard time coming up with something. I have a tendency to tackle stories that are much larger than can fit on 6-10 double-spaced pages. Plus, my teacher seems never to like anyone's story. I'm all for constructive criticism, but sometimes it just ends up being "that just didn't work." Bam. Shot down.
This is what he said about my last story: Nice job. The prose is fluid, smooth. I don't have much to add to it, other than it seems the details of some of the "missing" parts (I had skipped some "unimportant" chunks of the afternoon in the interest of length, which he wanted me to put back in)would help develop a stronger sense of atmosphere, which is important in a quiet story like this. and so on. So, yeah, he actually liked it. He did give me some constructive tips, and nothing he said was devestating to my ego. I'm afraid to try and follow that!
So, basically, I would really, really like my next story to be a strong, solid narrative. Character-driven is what I'm better at; not so good at coming up with a coherent plot that can be fit into a short-story length. He didn't so much like my first story, which I think was a bigger story than I tried to make it. I just really, really want this next one to be good! Ahhh!!! What a time for writer's block. =/
