Groovin'

Greg loves music. He loves it loud and harsh and fast, and soft and slow and everything in between. As long as he's usually alone in his little fishbowl, he figures he might as well listen to what he enjoys while he does the work he enjoys. It's just...more to enjoy.

Okay. Sometimes it can backfire. Grissom can get a little testy if he doesn't like what's being played. More than once, he's not noticed antsy CSIs come in, wanting their results. They put up with it, though, and he continues to listen to his music.

He's working on the DNA from a rape case, hands and head moving to the beat of old school Aerosmith, when his spidey-sense tingles. He freezes and peeks behind him. Sure enough, Nick is perched on the stainless steel counter, arms folded, smiling at him.

Greg smoothly turns off the player and faces Nick, then pauses. "I don't have anything for you tonight," he says, frowning.

"Aw, honey, not anything?" Nick teases, his eyes sliding down the length of Greg's body and back up. "There go my plans for after shift."

"Oh, well, after shift. That's another story," Greg says, smiling. "I'm sure I'll be able to find something for you then. But meanwhile, it is shift, and I'm in the middle of some work for Cath."

"I disagree," Nick says.

"Trust me, I'm in the middle," Greg says, sweeping his arm out over the array of test tubes.

"Sure. No question, man. But it's not shift." Nick is laughing at him.

Greg glances at the clock. "Huh. Would you look at that." He's mildly surprised by how not shift it is.

"In fact," Nick continues, "Catherine left about an hour ago."

"Wow. She stayed a little late," Greg notes.

"And I've been sitting here for about 45 minutes now," Nick says.

"That's...why?" Greg asks.

"Because it's not shift. Because I was waiting for you. And because while some people like to watch their significant others sleep, I find it much more relaxing and interesting to watch them work. Well, watch you work, any way," Nick clarifies.

"Because that way, you don't lose sleep yourself," Greg nods.

"True. Also, you're a very attractive man, and even more so when you're all intent on your work and stuff." Nick grins at him, a little devilishly.

"You're not half bad yourself," Greg grins back. He feels a little giddy, and knows it has everything to do with that damn smile. Gets him every time. "But I do have to finish this. Even if the person for whom I am finishing it bailed out."

"That's fine," Nick says and slides back onto the counter. "I'll just wait."

Greg turns the music back on and gets ready to give Nick something to enjoy.
