Doodle

I have today off, so in addition to housework (cleaning and organizing, mostly... it's never-ending!), I thought I'd clean and organize ze website. I added a couple things to ByHand, which hadn't been updated in 2008 at all. Crazy! Most of it you've seen (stuff from my Photoshop classes) but I did recently do a drawing that I thought I'd post here.

Laughter is the best medicine , originally uploaded by kayay5.

Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles from "Supernatural". I'm not entirely happy with Jensen's noggin, but I gave up trying to fix it. Done with a trusty old #2 mechanical pencil, with a touch of 6B and 8B for the darker spots. There's a step-by-step thingy on ByHand, just for kicks.

I have to start by saying GOBAMA! Because right now, as I type this, Barack Obama was elected President of the United States. AMAZING! AWESOME! I just... there really aren't any words.

It makes up for the craziness at the polling place this morning, as I was there right at 7:00 when the polls opened and was #46 in line. It took me forty-five minutes to get in the door, where there were about fifteen booths filled by about four people. The poll workers were soooo sloooow that it took 45 minutes to process 45 people.

But! For the first time in eight years, I'm optimistic and hopeful and happy with where this country is bound to be headed.

The theme for Monday was "Vibrant" and the sunset really fit the bill. But I noticed it too late to get a nice picture! I was still at work, and ran outside to snap this awful thing. *laugh* By the time I got across the street for a better view, the sun had slipped below the horizon and the sky was dark purple. Oh well!

This week's theme was On Assignment. KC and I are to text each other every morning with the day's photo assignment. Sunday's was something I do or see every day.

I'd considered a picture of the creek I walk by on my way to work, or something along those lines, but I ended up staying inside all day Sunday. I look at this little corner of the dining room every day, with my Eiffel Tower lamp and picture of my grandma as a child. Not only is it something I see every day, but also something I do, because it prompts me to think about my family. Not that I wouldn't, anyway, but it's a nice reminder.

Leftover Halloween goodies. I thought I'd take a picture of our sad, sad past-their-prime pumpkins, but early Sunday morning, Gen (who was sleeping in the living room while her mom was visiting) woke up to munching. Both cats were up on the desk, eating the pumpkins. Definitely past time to throw them out! The pumpkins, that is, not the cats. We'll keep the cats.

So, Halloween at work was a lot of fun. Everyone got into it, as you can see. And the funniest part? None of us discussed costume specifics beforehand, just that we'd dress to the theme of the 80's. And we all matched! Hilarious. We played 80's music all day and watched Top Gun at lunch and the consensus was that we wished we could have an 80's day once a month. *g* There are more pictures here, if that link works...

After work, I went to Ryan's to watch scary movies. We ended up with It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown (which isn't scary, but is a Halloween must) and The Orphanage (which was more freaky than traditionally horror). Oh, and in the ten minutes between work and heading to Ryan's, I got my first trick-or-treaters ever! They were all so adorable! I sort of wished I could stay home and answer the door, and felt pretty bad about leaving a darkened and empty house, but hopefully there were enough other people home in my neighborhood.

Thursday, 10/30/08: I vant to give you candy!

The same coworker who brought in the Tremblin' Toads brought this little guy. He talks when you walk by him, and one of his phrases is, Stop! Take me with you! Apparently, she'd been looking at him at Target, and when she went to walk away, that's what he said. And so she did. *g*

Wednesday, 10/29/08: Arachnophobia

This fella hangs on the door to the break room, and the picture was taken in honor of the black widow we found. Apparently, it's black widow season (doesn't make me feel better!) and the "infestation was significant" (really doesn't make me feel better!), said the exterminator who came to spray. *shudders* Hopefully, that's the last we'll see of them!

One of my coworkers is genetically programmed to be unable to resist seasonal singing Hallmark toys. *laugh* They are pretty cute, though, and she adds them to our decorations at work, so I really can't complain.

Taking a break from the Halloween pictures, this was just too cute to pass up. Usually, Monet sleeps on the most uncomfortable things in the room: paper, books, plastic bags, etc. But lately, she's been curling up here with Barkley. I just think it's precious. *g*

It might've been a little early for carving, but with Gen having rehearsal every evening and me going to work every day, there's very little opportunity for the two of us to be in the same room at the same time for more than a few minutes.

Went to the pumpkin patch to get pumpkins for carving, and it's sort of crazy how the focus was not on pumpkins! There were bouncy castles and carnival games and rides and face panting and a petting zoo, and everything cost tickets, and the pumpkins were just sort of... scattered about. We didn't even realize at first that we were supposed to pick them out from just anywhere; we thought they were for decoration and that we weren't seeing the pumpkin area. I miss going out to Curtis Orchard and taking a hay ride into the actual pumpkin patch and cutting my very own pumpkin off the vine. So much more fun than this commercial hoopla.

So, the theme of the week is People Watching, which was intended to be lots of pictures of people. This is where it sort of broke down. This little cat holds my goodies, and he kind of looks like he's watchin' for people... maybe?

I had a meeting at Corporate downtown, and then had some time to kill before meeting a friend for dinner, so I did the most dangerous thing ever: I went to the mall. I went specifically for jeans, and came home with two shirts and no jeans. But both shirts were on clearance!
